Today's post is about one of my many passions: BELLY DANCE!
Read time: 10-13 minutes
I first started belly dancing when I was a kid, although at the time, I didn't know I was belly dancing, I was just shaking and shimmying and undulating like a rattlesnake on fire!! Belly dancing came natural to me, even though I never had any official training until I was in my early 20s.
My first teacher was Tsikki. She is a Goddess. It is thanks to her that I fell in love with the art. She taught me that my body is an art form and that I must treat myself and my body like a priceless masterpiece, because I am (you too!) a one of a kind.
It took years for her teaching to sink in and I am glad it did, because I don't think I would be in France continuing her teaching if it did not. I will never forget her, not even when I am 100 and at that age, I still plan on shimmying like a rattlesnake on fire! I love her... I love her... I love her. Thank you for being, Tsikki.
For your viewing pleasure, my first teacher... the one, the only.... the Divine and the Lovely, Tsikki.
Her essence is pure joy and this is what I strive for when I dance. What a Goddess!
The benefits of belly dancing are numerous and instead of listing how this dance form can reform you, I will simply say this... If you can walk, you can belly dance.
In my belly dance class, you will learn that "every square is a circle and every circle is a square. 4 points! and rooooollll it out!" Guess you will just have to experience my dance class to understand what I am talking about. I strongly believe that EVERY WOMAN MUST BELLY DANCE. I am also proud to say that I have 2 belly dance babies! Two of my sweet friends were pregnant when they decided to take up belly dance. I am also pleased to say that both of their children are the kindest, cutest and smartest children in all of France! ;)
I recently read an article about a woman who at the age of 33 discovered she had stage 4 cancer. Belly dancing helped in her to heal and recover. You can read the article here. In the article, she also makes a reference to 4 points: Physical, Mental, Emotional, Spiritual.
The physical benefits of belly dance include helping you to evenly strengthen your core and spine, thus promoting good posture. It increases muscle tone and flexibility, which builds a stronger body.
The faster movements are great for your cardiovascular system, increasing blood flow and promoting the flow of oxygen throughout the body. The slower moments elevate self-awareness and muscle control, and can even become a form of meditation. The movements are low impact, which is gentle on your back and joints.
Dance helps clear the mind and allows you to let go of stress.
The mental benefits include empowerment, relaxation, and creativity.
The emotional benefits are: increased self-esteem, contentment, happiness, fulfillment, and feeling of accomplishment.
The spiritual benefits are: feeling centered, grounded, and connected to yourself, others, and your higher power.
I couldn't have said it better myself. If you get a chance, BELLY DANCE! It does a body good AND makes you a better lover! Oh la la! wink!
Until next time, take care of yourselves and remember that life is too short to eat bad food!
Big kiss and shake those hips!

Frenchified for Life
is a fabulous little lifestyle blog about truly embracing French life!
My intent is to simply inspire you to create something unique and beautiful in your everyday life. The French have this wonderful and annoying habit of seeing the world through rose colored glasses, might as well learn something from them!
That said, I lift my glass to you!
By the way, I mention the name Cachou (or The Cash) a lot, I'm referring to her...
